Which is better, SAP or SAS?

I assume you mean “better as a BI solution”.
SAP’s strength is in the ERP. The SAP BI solution, although complete (it has ETL, warehouse management, OLAP, user interface, authorization etc.) is not exactly cutting-edge technology, and is more SAP-oriented. So it’s quite good if you know the SAP world and you plan to extract data from SAP ERP, but it’s quite strange and unwieldy if you plan to use it a generic BI tool. It doesn’t have many sophisticated functionality. However, the things are getting improved with HANA and BW/4 HANA.
SAS, on the other hand, is being marketed as an advanced statistics and data mining tool. However, my impression is that’s quite pricey and (at least in the older versions) you need a lot of programming in its specific language in order to build things (in SAP BW solution you can do basic modeling just with drag and drop and setting properties).
As usual, “which is better” depends a lot of your requirements.

SAP is an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software by the same name of the company. SAP is a german acronym which is spelled in English as “Systems, Applications and Products in data processing”. The best place to study SAP is through its certification programs. The SAP website (SAP Software Solutions | Business Applications and Technology) gives complete details of it. You can browse to your country and find the registered training institutes. There are various modules of SAP. You may choose any module as per your expertise and plan a training.
SAS is an analytics package developed by SAS institute. SAS = Statistical Analysis System. SAS training details can also be found on the SAS website (Analytics, Business Intelligence and Data Management) where there are various levels of certification training courses.
For both the above courses, you will also find other small training institutes which are though not registered with the company but equip you with the application knowledge at lesser costs. However, the authenticity and quality of these institutes should be checked before planning to pursue a training from there.
To conclude, SAP and SAS are widely distinct and it is only their names which sound similar else both are very different.

Well, there’s a lot more drastic change in the structure of the products that has is providing to the customers. Also they have now started or launched C4HANA which is nothing but CRM for HANA (I don’t know about it yet exactly completely yet as it got launched two three days back).
