Well, SID is SAP System Identifier. It has three(3) letters and there is a predefined SAP strandard that we need to follow while making a SID and it should be either (CCC/CCN/CNCCNN) C=Char N=Numbers.
The SID or with other words the SAP System Identifier (sapsid) is a unique identification of a SAP System Instance. Within a SAP Customer Landscape it is essential to have each SAP instance distinguishably and addressable uniquely, especially if a customer has 50 or 60 Systems running. Along with the SID there is a System Nr. which should be also uniquely defined to this SID (e.g. SID = MBS and SystemNr. = 00 and/or SID = TST and SystemNr. = 01).
