Thanks for A2A.

I think, i am pretty much qualified to answer this question even though i am late. 🙂

SAP (Systems Applications and Products in Data Processing) Software is a European multinational, founded in 1972 by Wellenreuther, Hopp, Hector, Plattner, and Tschira. They develop software solutions for managing business operations and customer relationships, at Walldorf Germany. They have made generic software solutions for any type of organisation, dealing with any kind of businesses. If generic solutions do not meet customer business requirements, in that case, SAP has also provided easy enhancement points in their technical objects at their application server level. I really like this concept. For a business dealing with HR, Procurement, Controlling, Material Master or even Customer relationship management as an example – SAP is always considered to One Stop solution.

For many years (even now) their ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) product is just unbeatable and no other competitors such as Oracle, Microsoft, Salesforce could ever provide such ERP system.

I tried explaining in layman by below example what SAP could actually provide but again this is just an example. Believe it or not, SAP could offer far beyond our imagination.

SAP is #1 in the ERP market. As of 2010, SAP has more than 140,000 installations worldwide, over 25 industry-specific business solutions and more than 75,000 customers in 120 countries.

A company is not defined successful by their successful product but with their adaptation/innovation towards digital transformation world. SAP could have sat back and relaxed with their unbeatable ERP product but they chose to work on many innovations:

  • In memory computing – given birth of HANA
  • Cloud services – Different cloud services for Small/mid level organisations for easy calculation/commission. Example – Callidus, Harmony.
  • User Experience – Birth of UI5/Fiori applications.
  • Machine learning & IoT – Birth of SAP Leonardo
  • S/4HANA
  • C/4HANA

All these above technologies can be applied to below list of modules. For my personal experience, it is impossible for oneself to get expertise in all these modules.

  • Accounting
    • Financial accounting
    • Controlling
    • Treasury
    • Investment management
  • Logistics
    • Material management
    • Sales & Distribution
    • Customer Service
    • Plant
  • Supply-Chain management
  • HR
  • Cross application modules
    • CRM
    • BW
    • SAP-WF
    • SAP Enterprise portal
    • SAP Solution manager
  • Industry modules

SAP, which stands for Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing, is an ERP software that integrates multiple business applications.

SAP allows real-time management and tracking of sales, manufacturing, finance, accounting and human resources in an enterprise.

Traditionally, information systems used in businesses maintain separate systems for managing various business processes such as production, sales and accounting.

Each system maintained its own database and interactions between systems were performed in a prescribed manner.

In contrast, SAP maintains a single information system for the enterprise and all applications have access to common data.

Applications interact with each other when real business events occur.

For example, when sales and manufacturing events occur,

So accounting is done automatically.

Sales can see when production can be delivered, etc., thus the entire SAP system is designed to work in real-time.

SAP is a very complex system and runs on a fourth-generation programming language called Advanced Business Application Programming (ABAP).
