Practicing SAP ABAP for 5+ years

I had been in the same situation as you 2 years ago. How much experience do you have will play a lot of importance in your interview. Depending upon the area’s you worked on, start preparing those. Prepare a document in sync with your resume. Say for example you have put a point – Worked on Exit for VFo1, then in the corresponding document you should have all the information regarding this point, stating what was the requirement about, which exit did you change? what have you done to achieve the results?

By doing so, you will have complete information accessible with you irrespective of weather you have SAP access at the time you read this document. This will also enable you to answer interviewers queries without taking a time to recall what have you done on that specific point/question.

Also, I have the habit of taking a note of questions asked in the interview weather or not I am selected. This helps me prepare better with upcoming interviews. By doing so you will have bunch of questions before you appear for next interview.

Also, you can google interview questions for SAP ABAP. Ask your friends/colleges which questions were asked to them and start preparing those also.

This is my formula for appearing into interviews. This might take 2–3 interviews to collect as many as questions possible but it helps a lot after that.

Below are the few points I would like to see in a candidate I am interviewing for ABAP role:

1. Knowing ABAP.

2. Knowing peripherals – like basic idea about various modules and business processes. Knowing bunch of important exits, BAdis etc and their advantages and shortcomings.

3. Logical thinking – to solve any issue. You may be given a problem to analyse your approach to solving it. You may not solve it during the interview, but sure your approach will score you points.

4. Knowing interfaces, ALE, EDI etc.

5. Confidence.

6. Knowing how to say NO when you don’t know.
