As far it comes down to Testing, Let me tell you my view of it. I had been part of Testing in SAP ABAP module (ISU) for a certain amount of time & below are my experiences.
1. You will be given some basic KT initially , but the challenge here is you would be learning much lesser than the functional consultants who will be knowing A-Z of the process flow. You will be aware of the steps involved in testing but you will have to put in extra effort to learn the whole process flow .
2. You will gain some knowledge with respect to the SAP module you are testing on, But you will basically be testing the results of what the Code fix (Developer) Does. For eg, If i make a change in the code to populate an extra field/Modify a Field entry in a table/extract, The testing is done just to check if the result is reflected or not by following a couple of steps, But you will not get much idea on how the code fix was done unless you learn it or the developer gives you an idea of how it was done.
3. So basically testing is good for a beginner , But from my perspective the learning is quite limited & you will be just repeating couple of steps to check if the code fix is being reflected in the Testing environment or not & Further move the change to Production.
Its a good start for your career on SAP, But try to learn basics of Testing & move to the Functional/Operational side as you will be learning in depth & explore the whole module & Business as well. In short Testing is like more or less learning few points from one chapter of a subject & Development/functional side is the whole course in itself. Hope this helps .
