I have a very good idea of this because I have experience of 3 years and 8 months in SAP ABAP and I have recently switched companies 5 months before.
Market expectations are very flexible based on the kind of projects you have worked on.
General expectations are:
- Good knowledge of RICEF objects OR at least good knowledge in most parts and basic understanding of remainder.
- At least working knowledge of one Data Migration tool.
- Exposure to at least some of Standard ECC Modules like SD, MM, PM, PP.
- Any knowledge of Workflows, FPM, WebDynPro is a plus and will give you a huge advantage.
- Good knowledge of OO-ABAP. This has become necessary with the new upgrades.
Additional Advantage:
- The development environment is continuously changing in SAP. It will be very beneficial to have some basic knowledge of Javascript, JAVA, SQL etc. to be able to work in latest SAP technologies like UI5, HANA.
- It would be good if you have worked in Implementation projects as it gives you a wide technical exposure and proven ability to work in tight deadlines.

. An ABAP consultant with three years of experience should have complete working knowledge in RICEF concepts.
. Involved in at least one end to end implementation project.
. Understanding the flow of one or more basic modules such as SD/MM/PP etc.
. Expertise in at least one of the advanced applications such as Idocs/OO ABAP etc.
. I personally believe three years is the right time to move on from Just ABAPer to get trained in advanced technical modules such as Webdynpro/Workflow/UI5 etc
