Answer 1

Prateek Agarwal

Associate Vice President – Commercial at Rashmi Group (2019-present)

SAP PS stands for Project Systems. It is one of the most critical modules of SAP which requires close monitoring of schedules, delays, costs, budgets and commitments. It is one of the most advanced modules as well.

User companies, especially Engineering, Procurement and Commissioning (EPC) companies, use SAP PS. It breaks down numerous activities into sub activities, former is called Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and the latter is called Activity. There can be many activities under one WBS, but 2 WBS cannot be tagged with same activity. These activities are also further drilled down to Networks, which contain components, i.e. Materials and Services. Materials and Services can be automatically required through Material Requisition Planning (MRP), where a Purchase Requisition is automatically generated on the basis of stock available.

A sample PERT and CPM can also be viewed as per the progress of the project.

PS stands for PROJECT SYSTEMS.

It is one of the most highly integrated modules in SAP.

The main reason / use of WBS is to collect cost. All the costs collected on WBS is settled to a receiver such as any other WBS, COST CENTER, ORDER, GL ACCOUNT, ASSET etc.

The main task of PS is to break up a project into meaningful achievable tasks at higher level (WBS – WORK BREAKDOWN STRUCTURE).

A WBS can further be divided into smaller tasks (Networks and activities)

Networks are usually used when scheduling at detailed level comes into picture along with capacity planning and Assigning materials to these network activities.

Project is also used for Cost Planning & Budgeting so as to restrict over spending .

PS is integrated with FI (Financial Accounting), CO (Controlling), MM (Materials Management) SD (Sales &Distribution),PM (Plant Maintenance), PP (Production & Planning) etc.
