SAP Cloud Platform is SAP’s Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering.
A PaaS is a set of tools that customers can use to build and operate custom applications. You can of course install similar tools yourself but then you have to operate and maintain them by yourself, with a PaaS the cloud company does this work but at a cost lower than you could do it yourself.
